Kat and Elijah had synchronicities weaving through our 20s—moments of crossing paths, of almosts and maybes—but it all truly began when Elijah saw Kat dancing to Emancipator at Summer Meltdown in 2018. He describes it as a moment of deep knowing, a recognition of a soul mate. Still, their first real encounter hadn’t happened yet.

Kat moved to Portland around 2020, and from there, the messages started—long notes and letters filled with poetic pours. Eventually, those words turned into countless hours of driving, flying, and traveling so they could be together. Every time they came into each others orbit, they slipped into what felt like a portal—their own world, untouched by dueling realities.

When Kat came to visit Elijah in his tiny home in Bellingham, she experienced her deep knowing. They stayed up until sunrise and she staying for 3 days (intended for one night)—he was her person.

After pushing two years of long distance— writing, craving, longing, and being pulled toward something new—they packed up Kat’s condo life into a U-Haul (along with sweet Aura) and made their way to Bellingham.They found home.

Together, they are a balancing force.

Elijah is the calm, steady one—selectively spoken, cautious, slow-burning, strong, confident, smooth, logical. He carries small-town mountain man energy, moves intentionally, prefers simplicity, avoids puzzles, and loves books with wilderness settings and filled with adventure. Elijah finds peace tending to their garden, and taking long afternoon siestas.

And Kat—she’s all-in. Emotional, expressive, bubbly, pitter-pattering, creative, and complex. A city spirit drawn to variety and texture, lives for puzzles and falls for heart wrenching books with magic and a touch of surrealism. Kat finds peace in singing her self to tears (not well by the way) around the house and wonderous walks pondering over anything in bloom.

They gain wisdom within each others differences, and cherish every lesson through diverse reflections. They honor each other as whole individuals, and continually find gifts in experiencing life through one another’s eyes.

Elijah ask Kat to be his life partner “officially”, on a stormy beach in their favorite place, Tofino, on August 18 at roughly 8:18 pm. Kat cry-laughed in pure joy for far too long, until Elijah had to ask “is that a yes?”
